BARDA invites Aeolus Pharmaceuticals to submit proposal for development of AEOL 10150

Aeolus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced today that after review of the Company’s white paper on development of AEOL-10150 as a countermeasure for the lung effects of acute radiation syndrome, the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) Division of Chemical, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Countermeasures has informed the Company that, after careful analysis and consideration, it has invited Aeolus to submit a full proposal for a contract to develop AEOL 10150 from its current level of technical readiness to FDA approval.

NIH awards 12 research grants totaling $5 million for Tβ4 research

REGENERX BIOPHARMACEUTICALS, INC. announced today that National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded 12 research grants totaling over $5,000,000 for the study of Tβ4 in 2009/2010. Many of these grants will be going to collaborators with whom RegeneRx is working to understand its numerous biological activities and capabilities in medical indications, including the role of Tβ4 as an anti-inflammatory agent in tissue regeneration and its promotion of stem cell maturation.

Novavax, Inc. announced today that it has successfully completed a pre-clinical safety and efficacy study of its RSV vaccine candidate in cotton rats. Results from this study are needed to support an Investigational New Drug (IND) application to advance this novel recombinant F protein particle based RSV (RSV-F) vaccine candidate into clinical development. This vaccine candidate is composed of recombinant 'F' or 'fusion' protein of RSV which is used by the virus to infect and fuse with cells in the respiratory tract and cause disease.

A study recently conducted by US Oncology and Aetna finds that evidence-based care for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) results in an average cost savings of 35 percent over 12 months while demonstrating equivalent health outcomes. The study, which compared patients treated with evidence-based guidelines (also known as ‘on pathway’) to those treated with non-evidence-based guidelines (also known as ‘off pathway’), was published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Oncology Practice.

A new predictor of cornea transplant success has been identified by the Cornea Donor Study (CDS) Investigator Group. New analysis of data from the 2008 Specular Microscopy Ancillary Study (SMAS), a subset of the CDS, found that the preoperative donor cell count of endothelial cells, previously considered to be an important predictor of a successful transplant, did not correlate with graft success.
